Last night I took Micah to The Forgotten Carols. Just him and me. I got tickets for his birthday so we also went to TGI Fridays for dinner. He ate more than he usually does (He ate all of his fries and most of mine. He liked them because they were "extra salty."), and when I asked if he was full yet he said "I can't be full. They haven't brought me my ice cream yet." He was so excited for them to bring his ice cream, but when they sang to him he just stared at them with a half-pity smile. It was pretty funny.
When we got to the play we found out that our front row balcony seats were actually on the third row. This is because they have a huge wooden railing that prevents anyone on the first two rows from seeing the stage. Bad engineering. But it was okay because we could put our coats on the seats in front of us and put our feet up. I could see pretty well, but Micah had a hard time seeing part of it so he sat on my lap for about half the show. It was funny because the baby kept kicking Micah whenever he leaned back. I really enjoyed the show, and Micah really liked it too. I think it was about 45 minutes too long for him though. At the end he was pretty restless, so I was glad that the couple next to us had moved at intermission. I think Micah's favorite part was getting candy at the intermission.
It was the 20th anniversary for the Forgotten Carols. I had been to the show about 15 years ago, and I was surprised at how it had changed. Not huge changes, but it has evolved into a bigger production with more people. Michael McLean even added a new song this year. It was a fun experience to share with Micah. It was great to spend some one-on-one time with Micah with no interruptions from other things. I've decided that I need to do this kind of thing more often with my kids. Thanks, Micah, for a wonderful night!
