Yellowstone

We went to Yellowstone over Mother's Day weekend. It was pretty cold (it snowed Thursday and Friday), but we had a great time anyway. One day as we were driving through the park, a herd of buffalo came up on the road in front of us. They surrounded our car and were so close that we could have touched them! It was really cool. You can tell how huge they are even far away, but up that close they are monstrous and you can just feel the power they have. Very cool!

We got to see Old Faithful, and we got there just as it was supposed to go off. It ended up being about 15 minutes later and the boys were not happy about waiting, as it was snowing and cold. We then went to the Old Faithful Inn and walked around in there for a bit to warm up.

Across the street from our condo was the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center. We went there and got to see 4 wolves and 5 bears. We got to see them feed the wolves, and a raven came and stole some of the food. The boys thought that was pretty funny. The boys picked out some stuffed animals at the gift shop- Jacob got a black bear and Micah got a buffalo. Later that day we were driving through Yellowstone again and we saw two grizzlies out playing in the river. It was so neat to see some bears that were out in the wild! We were really excited! What an awesome and rare experience.

We saw lots of animals: elk, bison, bears, osprey, pelicans, and even an otter. We also hiked around several of the geysers and springs. Micah says that he didn't like Yellowstone because it was too stinky. The steam that the geothermals make has a very pungent sulfur smell. When we would hike around them, the boys would say "Look out for the stinky steam!"

Jacob says that his favorite parts were swimming, seeing the bears, and having the buffalo next to our car. Micah's favorite part was the buffalo too. It was such a beautiful place and we can't wait to go back!
